Perth Building Project
Update June, 2017
The pipework and the connection with the underground network system is now in progress then more ground levelling. This stage sounds really laid back as there is not much to see, but, these are some of the most crucial exercises in construction that we rarely think of as our focus is mainly on the structural building of the home. However, we did have a good week of excitement when the very first loads of bricks were delivered. Although not going straight to use as yet, just their sight is so motivating!
After months of moving residents from Jugan Villa to Maryvale, packing and storage and establishing a temporary kitchen and laundry the inevitable finally happened.
On a typically hot sunny West Aussie day the giant excavator and dump trucks entered the main gates and commenced demolition work on the western side of the home. With its large bucket the giant excavator felled the building then proceeded to sort into piles the bricks, tiles, timber and other materials. These were then loaded into the dump trucks and carted away.
It has been a hype of activity at the home every day and we have become accustomed to our wake up call of shaking when the earthworks commence.
This has not stopped our Fundraising activities with forthcoming events of a sausage sizzle on ANZAC Day and a major raffle draw with the first prize of a car. There is even a hint of another Food fair later this year.
We are so grateful to the many people who constantly assist and support us throughout all these changes and we ask the Lord to reward and bless them all.
For those who enjoy entertainment and love excellent food from some of Perth’s best known restaurants, the Entertainment Book offers a wide range of cuisines at superb discounts. Building Update April, 2017
The Glendalough Home bears the testimony of time in that the current building is requiring much costly maintenance; the rooms are those of an earlier era that provided accommodation for the elderly of Western Australia and were adapted over time. We desire to build a new Home, compliant with building and regulatory requirements, to meet the needs of the elderly today.
The new Home will provide “Ageing in place” in order to continue the standard of care that is required. The Mission of the Little Sisters is to accompany the elderly of low income to live a meaningful life in peace and security.
