Residents: A Place in Our Family

Since the winter of 1839, when Jeanne Jugan first welcomed Anne Chauvin into her home, Little Sisters of the Poor has opened its doors to thousands of elderly individuals. We believe that every person, regardless of age or circumstance, deserves to feel at home, surrounded by care, respect, and warmth. Our residents are part of a larger family that includes volunteers, Little Sisters, employees, associates, and benefactors – all working together to create a community where everyone has their place.

Ageing in Place: Comfort and Privacy

Our homes are thoughtfully designed to cater to the diverse needs of our residents, enabling them to age in place. Each home balances the desire for privacy with the need for community, fostering an atmosphere of peace and connection.

Key features include:

  • Single rooms with private ensuites, large enough to create a personal, peaceful space.

  • Comfortable communal spaces, including dining areas that promote social interaction and multi-purpose rooms for activities and entertainment.

  • Quiet sitting areas, a library, and a chapel for daily Mass and personal reflection.

  • A shop, as well as leisure and lifestyle programs to engage residents, families, and visitors.

Our focus on comfort extends to essential services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, hairdressing, and dietary support.

Support and Accompaniment: A Welcoming Home

We understand that leaving one’s home can be a difficult and emotional transition, which is why we are committed to providing a warm, personalized welcome for every resident. We strive to create an environment where memories, familiar belongings, and past interests can remain a part of daily life. Families are welcome to bring personal touches to the resident’s room, ensuring a sense of continuity and comfort as they settle into this new chapter.

Our aim is to create a place where joy and peace come together, where residents experience the comfort of home, and where young and old connect in a vibrant, supportive environment.

We welcome elderly men and women aged 65 and over who may have limited financial means, ensuring that those who need it most can access the care and community they deserve.
