This year, the Jewish Passover fell on the same day as Good Friday.
A Shabbat Shalom was organized for our Jewish Residents in Sydney.
The Shabbat is the Jewish Day of Rest. Shabbat Shalom literally means "peaceful Shabbat". A Shabbat happens each week from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. During the weekly Shabbat, The Jewish people recall the story of creation from the Torah where God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th day. However, this Shabbat celebration fell during the great Jewish feast of Passover and coincided with the Christian commemoration of Good Friday.
The Jewish facilitator explaining the meaning of the symbols and items on the dish. It was their Shabbat Passover also on Good Friday.
On the dish were the bitter herbs, the lamb bone,
the egg, and the unleavened bread, with grape juice in place of wine!
The Sisters were interested to hear
that the explanation and symbols
were exactly what we read at our Easter Vigil.
